The anodised aluminium chimney, handles and new stainless steel basket cap are compatible with Mk.1 machines. Structural Mk.2 upgrades (such as the castings) are not designed to retrofit Mk.1.
Yes, it is compact and rugged, pack it dry and padded if you fly.
No preheating routine, fill, assemble, heat, brew. You should find that you are brewing from cold in 3-6 minutes.
