Low shot weight
Problem
The 9Barista Mk.2 is producing a small shot, weighing less than 35g.
Solution
1. Descale the machine
If your machine is showing signs of limescale build up, then we would recommend descaling your machine by following these instructions. Limescale buildup can cause seals to leak, causing low shot weight.
2. Replace the boiler o-ring
If the Boiler o-ring is damaged or has been overheted, it can leak under pressure, which can cause a reduced shot weight. Typically water will also come out of the chimney if this is happening.
If the o-ring is damaged it should be replaced with the spare that came with the machine. Alternatively replacement can be purchased here.
3. Replace the valve pin seal
If the Valve pin seal is damaged, has been overheated, or has a build up of deposits, it can also leak under pressure, which can cause a reduced shot weight. Typically water will also come out of the chimney if this is happening.
If the there is a build up of deposits on the seal, you will need to dissassemble the machine and clean the seal. If the seal appears to be damaged, then you will need to replace it with a new one, which can be purchased here.
