The safety valve is opening
Problem
The Safety Valve opens when using the 9Barista Mk.2, releasing pressurised steam.
(Note: if it leaks water immediately after filling the boiler, follow these instructions to fix the issue)

Solution
1. Reduce the heat setting
If the machine is heated too quickly, (starts brewing in less then 3 minutes), then the pressure will build too quickly and the safety valve may open before the machine has finished producing an espresso. Turn the heat setting down on the next use.
2. Grind the coffee coarser
If the heat setting is correct and the machine is taking longer than 3 minutes to start brewing espresso, then your coffee may be ground too fine, causing a blockage. You will see the espresso filling the portafilter very slowly if this is the case. Grind the coffee coarser on the next use.
3. Descale the machine to remove blockage
If the safety valve opens, even if you put very coarse coffee, or no coffee at all in the portafilter, then there is a blockage in the machine. If that’s the case, follow the descaling instructions here to remove the blockage.
