Replacing the safety ring
Replacing the Safety Ring will take approximatly 1 minute.
How it works
The Safety Ring is a fail-safe that will depressurise the machine if overheated, activating only when the Boiler is empty. This typically happens if the machine stays on heat after brewing, is reheated after pouring, or is heated without water.
If the Safety Ring activates, you may hear a hiss. Replace it if water leaks from a small hole on its side.
Tools and parts required
- A replacement safety ring and replacement seals, if needed (you will have received a spare safety ring and seals with your machine)
- A 13mm spanner/wrench. (It’s important that a correctly-sized spanner is used)
Step 1
Remove the Safety Valve form the side of the Boiler using the spanner. Place the spanner around the nut – that’s the part of the valve that has flat sides.
Step 2
Remove the gold coloured Safety Ring, by pulling/twisting it off the Safety Valve. The two red seals will come off with it.
Step 3
Push the new Safety Ring into place on the Safety Valve, with one Safety Ring Seal located on each side of the Safety Ring. The orientation of the Safety Ring does not matter.
Step 4
Screw the Safety Valve assembly into the Boiler. Use the 13mm spanner/wrench to tighten so there is metal-on-metal contact between the Safety Ring and the Boiler. You won’t need to tighten it very hard, the thing to feel for is a sudden increase in resistance when screwing it in (that’s when you get metal-on-metal contact).
