My machine isn't producing espresso
Problem
The 9Barista Mk.2 is not producing an espresso after being left on the heat source for 8 minutes.
Solution
1. Increase the heat setting
Insufficient heat is the most common reason for coffee not brewing, as it prevents pressure buildup in the Boiler. If the Safety Valve is not opening, try again with a higher heat setting. (If the Safety Valve is opening, do not increase the heat setting, and move to the next solution)
Note:
- Induction cookers require the use of the Induction Adaptor Plate
- Domestic gas cookers require the use of the Heat Transfer Plate, and should be used on a gas ring ~ 5 to 8cm (2-3") in diameter.
2. Grind the coffee coarser
If the coffee is too fine it create a blockage in the machine preventing it from working. Grind the coffee coarser and try the machine again.
3. Descale the machine to remove blockage
If the safety valve opens, even if you put very coarse coffee, or no coffee at all in the portafilter, then there is a blockage in the machine. If that’s the case, follow the decaling instructions here to remove the blockage.
